Chelyabinsk Zinc Works has started constructing a site of zinc cake flotation. The foundation has been laid, and the company is now busy assembling reservoirs and pumps.

When processing zinc concentrate, zinc cake is created containing 15-25% of zinc, which is then sent for fuming in the rotary kiln. Cake also contains some 2% of sulfur, which “pollutes” the rotary kiln. To decrease the sulfur negative influence on the kiln its contents in the cake are reduced with the help of flotation.

“Processing of cake with decreased sulfur contents will improve rotary kiln operation”, the company technical director Alexander Zatonsky said.

The construction of the flotation site will be finished in Q2. The cost of the project is 59 million rubles, with 30 million rubles being construction costs. (Ukrainian metal)
