Baikal Mining Company has started designing a technical unit of the Udokan ore processing facility at one of the world’s largest copper deposits, it said in a statement on October 3.
“Baikal Mining Company and Mekhanobr Engineering have agreed to design a technical complex of the Udokan metallurgic facility. The work is to be finished until the end of 2018. The company is performing the work using own funds,” the statement reads.
The plant is to have a capacity of at least 36 million tons of ore annually, which is to be expanded to 45 million tons.
Baikal Mining Company is the operator of the project to develop the Udokan field located in the Lake Baikal area. The deposit’s mineral resources are estimated at 2.3 billion tons with an average copper content of 1.06%, and copper of 24.6 million tons under JORC. (Prime/Ukrainian metal)
