DTEK intends to increase gas-coal output to 25 million tons per year to be able to fully cover Ukraine’s need in the fuel.

“We have enough gas-coal stocks. But this is the matter of state policy, the issue of price creation and the market tools, which have to work. Coal industry needs constant investments”, the company CEO Maksim Timchenko said.

He believes that in the long-term Ukraine will stop using anthracite altogether, as it is mined on the uncontrolled territories.

In 2017 Ukraine will have to import 7 million tons of power-generating coal, with the projected consumption of 27 million tons. (Ukrainian metal)
