Last year the export duty for scrap increased from 10 euro per ton to 30 euro.
This has immediately affected the budget – taxes increased almost 2-fold. And much more raw materials stayed in the country.
“At present Azovstal Iron and Steel Works is fully provided with scrap. Unfortunately a year ago the situation was quite the opposite. We had scrap enough for a day only. We all knew that it was an emergency operation. Any breakdown in the railroad transportation could have lead to the shut down of the works”, an employee of Azovstal Dmitry Guseyev said.
The situation improved with the increase of the duties. (Ukrainian metal)
