Poltava Mining and Processing Works, a part of Ferrexpo, has invested 20 million UAH in the creation of a repair service of its own railroad wagons.

The repair will be carried out by the daughter company Ferrotrans.

“Last October we received a license to conduct repairs of our own wagons. We’ve been moving towards this goal for 2 years”, PGOK commercial director Dmitry Spatar reported.

In a month Ferrotrans can repair some 50 wagons. PGOK intends to increase this number to 100 wagons per month.

Earlier the wagons were repaired by Ukrzaliznytsia, but now its share will decrease to 10-20%.

“We’ve decided to repair 80-90% by ourselves, the rest will be repaired by Ukrzaliznytsia”, Spatar noted. “We don’t want to lose time during repairs. The wagons are repaired in small batches – from 1 to 5. Such batches could travel to the Ukrzaliznytsia depot for 7-10 days. Thus the repair of 1 wagon could last for a month, plus the payment for using railroad. Even if Ferrotrans repairs at the price of Ukrzaliznytsia we will save some 2 million UAH per month”.

PGOK has 2300 gondola cars, with the average age of 10 years. (Ukrainian metal)
