In January-February Ukraine mined 7367.9 thousand tons of coal, up by 11.3% YoY, or by 750.8 thousand tons.

According to the Ministry of energy and coal industry, coking coal output dropped by 24.2%, or by 338.3 thousand tons, to 1058.5 thousand tons, while that of power-generating coal went up by 16.5%, or by 891.3 thousand tons, to 6309.4 thousand tons.

The ministry-controlled companies mined 916.8 thousand tons of coal, down by 12.4% YoY, or by 130.1 thousand tons, including 198.4 thousand tons of coking coal, down by 33.3%, or by 99.2 thousand tons, and 718.4 thousand tons of power coal, down by 4.1%, or by 30.9 thousand tons.

Donetsk region mines extracted 2512.9 thousand tons of coal, down by 5% YoY, Lugansk mines – 1341.8 thousand tons, up by 74.7%, Dniepropetrovsk region mines – 3206.7 thousand tons, up by 11%, Lviv region mines – 284.2 thousand tons, up by 10.4%, and Volyn region mines – 22.1 thousand tons, down by 39.3%.

In 2016 Ukraine mined 40.86 million tons of coal, up by 2.8% YoY, or by 1.11 million tons, including 8.36 million tons of coking coal, up by 0.4%, or by 36.3 thousand tons, and 32.5 million tons of power-generating coal, up by 3.4%, or by 1.08 million tons. (Ukrainian metal)
