In 2016 Russia produced 10.3 million tons of steel pipes, down by 9% YoY.

According to the Fund on development of pipe industry, consumption dropped by 10%, to 9.7 million tons.

The main reason is the decrease in demand for large diameter pipes. Last year it decreased by 35% YoY, to 2.14 million tons.

On the other hand, consumption of oil-and-gas pipes and OCTG pipes increased by 2% YoY, to 3.1 million tons.

Construction pipes segment remained at 3.7 million tons. The highest increase was observed in the industrial pipes for machine-building – by 9%, to 189 thousand tons.

Pipe exports went up by 11.7%, to 1.04 million tons because of the start of delivery of LDP for the North Stream-2 project. (Ukrainian metal)
