ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih gradually replaces natural gas with bio-fuel when producing lime, a raw material used in making pig iron and steel.

The refractory-lime shop has always been one of the largest gas consumers at the works.

In addition to gas burners at rotating furnaces No. 4 and 5 the company has assembled bio-fuel burners that use sunflower seed husks.

In Q4 2016 the furnaces consumed 70% of bio-fuel and 30% of gas, with 2.2 tons of husks equal to 1 thousand cubic meters of gas, while the price is three times lower. (Ukrainian metal)
