In 2017 Metinvest expects the steel consumption to slow down to 7% after a 26% jump in 2016.

Next year the market will total 4.415 million tons against 4.122 million tons in 2016 and 3.269 million tons in 2015.

Bars consumption will grow by 4% YoY, to 1.562 million tons, of shapes – by 17%, to 262 thousand tons, of flat metal without plating – by 10%, to 1.738 million tons, with plating – by 6%, to 575 thousand tons.

Construction segment was the main driver of the growth, with more rebars consumed than sections. Next year Metinvest expects the consumption to even. (Ukrainian metal)
