In October Ukraine will produce 2 million tons of steel, 2 million tons of pig iron and 1.7 million tons of rolled metal, according to Ukrmetallurgprom. The same indexes were targeted for September.

In August Ukraine produced 1961 thousand tons of pig iron (with average daily output at 63.3 thousand tons, down by 6% MoM, or 3.8 thousand tons), 1903 thousand tons of steel (61.4 thousand tons per day, down by 8% MoM, or by 5.2 thousand tons) and 1728 thousand tons of rolled metal (55.7 thousand tons, down by 4% MoM, or by 2.5 thousand tons).

The decrease in output was caused by problems with coke and iron ore raw materials supplies.

As of September 13, 24 out of 28 blast furnaces (86%), 17 out of 21 converters (81%), 8 out of 9 open-hearth furnaces (89%) and 6 out of 16 electric arc furnaces (38%) were in operation.

In January-August Ukraine produced 15963 thousand tons of pig iron, 16379 thousand tons of steel and 14382 thousand tons of rolled metal, all up by 14%, 9% and 9% YoY respectively.

Metal companies received 2.3 million tons of Ukrainian iron ore raw materials, down by 500 thousand tons MoM, or 19.1 million tons in January-August, up by 14% YoY, or by 2.3 million tons. Imports totaled 1.3 million tons, up by 18% YoY, or by 200 thousand tons, with 45 thousand tons in August, down by 15 thousand tons MoM.

Exports dropped by 15% YoY, to 26.1 million tons, with 3 million tons exported in August.

By-product coke plants received 560 thousand tons of Ukrainian coals, up by 20 thousand tons MoM, and 4.1 million tons in January-August, up by 8% YoY, or by 300 thousand tons. Imports dropped by 10 thousand tons MoM, to 840 thousand tons, but increased by 24% YoY, or by 1.5 million tons, to 7.8 million tons.

Imports share grew to 66% from 62% in January-August 2015. As of September 1, coal stocks totaled 390 thousand tons, down by 50 thousand tons MoM.

Metal companies received 910 thousand tons of Ukrainian coke in August and 7.3 million tons in January-August, up by 20% YoY, or by 1.2 million tons. Ukraine imported 100 thousand tons of coke in August and 740 thousand tons in January-August, down by 24% YoY, or by 240 thousand tons.

Metal companies received 240 thousand tons of scrap in August, down by 15 thousand tons MoM, or just 79% of the need. In January-August metal makers received 1990 thousand tons of scrap, 83% of the need and down by 8% YoY. Scrap stocks went up by 10 thousand tons in August and as of September 1, totaled 130 thousand tons. In July-August scrap was not exported. In January-July Ukraine exported 233 thousand tons of scrap as opposed to 1 million tons in the respective period of 2015.

In August metal companies consumed 130 million cubic meters of gas with average daily consumption at 4.2 million cubic meters, up by 0.1 million cubic meters MoM. In January-August metal makers consumed 1.1 billion cubic meters of gas, down by 19% YoY, with average daily consumption at 4.6 million cubic meters as opposed to 5.7 million in 2015.
