Half Ukraine’s thermal power plants get coal from mines, and the state now owns only 35 of them, and their number could drop to 7.
“What the energy minister Nasalik says, differs from the real situation. Ukraine owns only 35 mines. If it retains control over 7 of them, 28 would leave the state ownership, not 13”, said the energy expert Valentin Zemlyansky.
“Ukrainian mines of Lviv-Volyn coal basin provide coal to the TPPs. Now the questions arise: who and to what extent is interested in developing mines, and what guaranties the investors can give that the output will remain? Where will Ukraine get this coal? And how will the tariffs change?” Zemlyansky asks.
Earlier the energy and coal industry minister Igor Nasalik said, that Ukraine should retain 7 most profitable mines and shut down 11-13. (Ukrainian metal)
