In May Ukraine received 301 thousand tons of scrap while it needed 375 thousand tons.
“Scrap deficiency went up 2 times YoY from the year start”, said Interpipe finance director Denis Morozov.
The company explains increase of the scrap deficiency in May with the activization of exports. Despite the court decree 113 thousand tons of scrap, or 27% of the May procurement, were exported.
According to the company statement, the systematical lack of scrap on the local market resulted in the rise of hot-briquetted iron imports. In January-May Ukraine imported 44 thousand tons of iron, up 7.7 times YoY. All the iron came from Russia. (Ukrainian metal)
