Pobuzhye Ferronickel Plant plans to stop importing power-generating coal from Kazakhstan and switch to Ukrainian raw materials.

PFK buys only 1.5 thousand tons of coal per month from Kazakhstan.

“We need low sulfur coal (less than 0.7%). Now we’re looking for such coal in Ukraine”, said the company CEO Oleg Bespalov.

Now there are no problems with coal delivery to the plant, while in 2014 the company had to import coal from Colombia.

“It didn’t suit us quality-wise, as we needed volatile matter in coal to be less than 35%, while Colombian coal had 48%”, added Bespalov.

Pobuzhye Ferronickel Plant is the only company in Ukraine and ex-USSR capable of producing ferronickel from lean oxide-bearing nickel-containing ores in large volumes. (Ukrainian metal)
