In 2015 Ukrainian metal companies are expected to produce 23 million tons of steel, 22 million tons of pig iron and 20 million tons of rolled metal, all down by 15%, 11% and 16% YoY respectively.
According to Metallurgprom, in January 2016 metal companies would decrease steel smelting by 4.8% MoM, to 2 million tons, while rolled metal and pig iron output would be kept on December level (1.8 million and 2 million tons respectively).
In January-November Ukraine produced 19.91 million tons of pig iron, 21 million tons of steel and 18.34 million tons of rolled metal, all down by 14%, 17% and 17% YoY respectively.
In November pig iron output totaled 1.85 million tons (61.8 thousand tons daily average, down by 7%, or by 4.8 thousand tons MoM), that of steel – 1.88 million (62.8 thousand tons, down by 5%, or by 3.5 thousand tons) and of rolled metal – 1.6 million tons (with 53.4 thousand tons on average a day, down by 6%, or by 3.6 thousand tons MoM).
This decrease was the result of the repairs at some companies and the overall low demand.
As of December 1, 23 out of 30 blast furnaces (77%) were in operation, with 8 out of 9 (89%) open-hearth furnaces and 15 out of 21 converters (71%). (Ukrainian metal)
