Due to the war in the East Ukraine lost half of its coal mining, while its metal industry fell by a quarter.
“None would restore destroyed companies and repair damaged ones, that’s profitless and expensive”, says economist Alexander Okhrimenko.
Lugansk Tube Plant has been restored. It’s working at 60-70% of capacity; the staff has decreased by a third. The salary at the works is 3-4 thousand UAH. The working shift is 8 hours instead of 6.
Experts say it’s difficult to find out what companies operate, what not and what have been plundered, as there is no access to the Ukraine-uncontrolled territories.
“But all companies that have resumed their work pay taxes to Ukraine. Coal output fell 2-2.5 times, and that’s the problem. Anthracite is mined in Donbass, and many Ukrainian thermal energy stations work on this anthracite”, says economist Andrei Blinov. (Ukrainian metal)
