Ukrainian energy-generating companies purchase around 40 thousand tons of anthracite coal daily from the terrorist-occupied mines of Donbass.
“We’re buying coal from the uncontrolled territory. All the anthracite coal comes from there. There are mines there, there is coal there, and we can buy it”, said the energy and coal industry deputy minister Alexander Svetelik, adding that Ukraine gets around the same quantity of coal from the controlled territories of Donbass.
According to him, the average price of coal from Donbass is 1.1 thousand UAH per ton, so it’s unprofitable for Ukraine to buy coal on foreign markets, as its price is 1.8-2 thousand UAH per ton.
To survive the coming winter Ukraine needs 3.2 million tons of coal, and the government intends to have stocked this amount by November 1. As of October 15, thermal power stations had 2.5 million tons of coal. (Ukrainian metal)
