Azovstal Iron and Steel Works, a part of the Metinvest group, has started producing rails with hardened side face.

According to the group information, Azovstal has mastered the production of rails with hardened side face of converter steel, which will lead to higher quality characteristics. One of the main quality parameters of rails is their hardness. Such rails serve 1.7 times longer compared to the ordinary rails.

The works will produce 5.7 thousand tons of R-65 rails for Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways). The products will be used in the railroad reconstruction in Ukraine.

Metinvest notes the revival of the railroad metal market: in July the capacity of Azovstal railroad shop reached 65%, while the rail bracers shop has an average capacity of 60% in July-August.

Azovstal is capable of producing more than 5.5 million tons of pig iron, over 6.2 million tons of steel and 4.4 million tons of rolled metal per year, with rail bracers capacities at 285 thousand tons per year. (Ukrainian metal)
