According to the Ukrainian Ferroalloy Producers Association, Ukraine boosted ferroalloy output 73.7% YoY in January to August to 964,900 tons.
As per report, silicomanganese production grew by 57.4% to 629,600 tons, ferromanganese – by 210% to 196,200 tons, 45%-ferrosilicon – by 54.8% to 129,600 tons and manganese metal by 2.2% to 9,500 tons.
Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant, the biggest of Ukraine’s three smelters, raised silicomanganese production by 44.9% YoY in the eight months to 471,200 tons and ferromanganese – by 4.7 times to 150,100 tons. Overall ferroalloy output at Nikopol rose by 74% YoY to 621,300 tons.
Zaporozhye Ferroalloy Plant (ZFW) saw its silicomanganese production soar 83% to 103,200 tons in eight months, with 45%-ferrosilicon output doubling to 38,200 tons, ferromanganese up by 51.6% to 46,100 tons and manganese metal production rising by 2.2% to 9,500 tons. Overall ferroalloy output at ZFW rose by 71% to 197,100 tons. ZFW controls 30-35% of the Ukrainian market and exports ferroalloys to the CIS, EU, Asia and Africa. It imports concentrate from Ghana, Brazil, Australia, Russia and Poland in order to achieve the right chemical composition for ferroalloys.
PrivatBank controls ZFW and the Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant, which bolstered output by 41.8% to 91,300 tons of 45%-ferrosilicon and by 200% to 55,200 tons of silicomanganese. Its overall ferroalloy production grew by 77.4% to 146,500 tons.
The country’s two manganese concentrate producers, the Ordzhonikidze and Marhanets mining and concentrating works, which PrivatBank also controls, produced 971,100 tons of concentrate between them in January to August, 88.4% more than they produced in the same period of last year.
The State Statistics Committee said Ukraine boosted manganese ore and concentrate exports 7.2-fold YoY in January to July 2010 and for $2.961 million (up by 8.5 times).
The country exported 26,136 tons to Romania for $2.71 million in the seven months, 1,963 tons to the Czech Republic for $16,800 and 1,379 tons to Russia for $83,600. (Interfax)
