The Metallurgprom association said Ukraine would likely cut rolled steel output 15.6% this year to 26.684 million tons judging by results for the first 11 months.

Pig iron production could fall 18% to 25.484 million tons, crude steel by 21% to 29.515 million tons, pipes by 32% to 1.593 million tons and coke by 12% to 17.292 million tons. Scrap metal supplies to Ukrainian steel mills might fall 23% to 4.479 million tons.
Crude iron ore production could fall 10% to 64.842 million tons, iron ore concentrate by 5% to 54 million tons and prepared ore by 14% to 54.834 million tons including 20% to 34.622 million tons of sinter and 1% to 20.211 million tons of pellets.
Ukraine reduced finished roll output 13% in 2008 to 31.493 million tons. The country produced 37.107 million tons of crude steel and 30.982 million tons of pig iron, in both cases approximately 13% less than in 2007. It produced 2.456 million tons of steel pipes in 2008, 6% less.
Iron ore concentrate production fell by 7% to 56.696 million tons; prepared iron ore fell 12% to 63.452 million tons, including pellets by 9% to 20.401 million tons, sinter ore by 13% to 43.052 million tons and crude iron ore by 7% to 71.721 million tons.
Ukrainian coke production fell by 5% to 19.465 million tons. Metalware production fell by 30% to 299,000 tons. Scrap deliveries to Ukrainian steel mills were down by 17% from 2007 to 5.824 million tons in 2008. (Interfax)
