Nibulon non-self-propelled NBL-002 vessel transported the first batch of Ukrainian metal from Kamianske (Dnipropetrovsk region) to Yuzhnyi Port on April 21.

Nibulon continues implementing its large-scale investment project aimed at increasing the volume of goods transported by river up to 4 million tons per year. The company plans to achieve this figure within the next two years.

To transport such volumes of cargoes, a new high-capacity fleet is needed. Nibulon constructs it at its own shipbuilding and repair yard in Mykolaiv, one of the few shipyards in Ukraine constructing complete vessels. Almost every month the shipyard launches a new vessel that is larger and more complex in terms of equipment. In the next few years the company’s fleet will number 100 units.

Such an active implementation of Nibulon’s shipbuilding program is a positive signal for Ukrainian metallurgists. It is not only because the company uses Ukrainian steel to construct new vessels that will fly the Ukrainian flag. From now on, Nibulon undertakes to organize transportation of Ukrainian metal products by river.

Nibulon has long ago stated that transportation of other cargoes (building materials, metal, vegetables etc.) except for grain by water is a matter of time. Last year the news about Kherson watermelons transported by Nibulon’s fleet to Kyiv went round the whole Ukraine. This year Nibulon has taken another step. Nibulon’s cargo fleet will be transporting metal products along the river.

On April 21 the non-self-propelled NBL-002 vessel transported the first batch of Ukrainian metal of Metinvest Shipping Ltd. from Kamianske to Yuzhnyi Port. In total 16,000 tons of metal products will have been delivered to Yuzhnyi by the end of this week.

It is expected that the redirection of metal products to navigable routes will allow relieving the burden on railway and reducing the railway vehicles shortage in the Ukrainian market. River resources represent a huge potential of the country that allows not only optimizing logistics, but also significantly reducing the prime cost of cargo transportation. Nibulon’s strategy for efficient logistics of water transportation is economically feasible and environmentally friendly. (PortNews/Ukrainian metal)
