Kazakhmys’ production results in January-March remained stable despite the accumulated technical limitations from previous periods. This allowed it to exceed its copper in ore production plan by 3.7%, reaching 68.6 thousand tons. Copper in concentrate production amounted to 62.5 thousand tons (+2.3%), and copper cathode production reached 96.6 thousand tons (+0.69%).
It is particularly important that these results were achieved under conditions where the new team had effectively begun to address the accumulated deficiencies from previous periods. Some of these issues were related to the optimization of the repair fund in 2025 and the lack of necessary spare parts for repair and restoration work. However, the company transitioned to a more active investment and repair agenda as early as the first quarter of 2026. In the mining sector, the replacement of 30 units of critically worn-out underground equipment was approved, and the total approved investment volume over the three months exceeded $245 million.
The scale of the work encompassed production, infrastructure, and social aspects simultaneously: equipment modernization, increased maintenance, renovation of public amenities, development of employee housing, improved safety, and the launch of new regional projects.
The emphasis on long-term sustainability has been significantly strengthened. Geological exploration resulted in an increase in copper reserves of 132,200 tons during the quarter. (MetalPortal)
