Police are investigating the theft of more than 3 kilometres of copper cables from U.S. Steel Kosice steelworks.

Kosice police spokeswoman Lenka Ivanova said various types of copper cables with a total length of 3,080 metres were taken along with plumbing components, transformers, wheelbarrows and other construction material.

Total damages related to the theft, which took place on the night of February 25 to 26 in the Cokery division warehouse, were calculated at almost EUR 10,300 so far, Ivanova added.

A criminal investigation has been launched, but police say they so far have no idea how many people have been involved, nor how the items have been stolen. (The Slovak Spectator/Ukrainian metal)
