Metinvest intends to stop producing steel using open-hearth furnaces operating at Zaporizhstal.
“I think, when our pollution allowances expire, we will shut down these furnaces”, Metinvest CEO Yuri Ryzhenkov has said.
After that Zaporizhstal will remain a pig iron enterprise to be shut down in due time, or electric arc manufacture will have to be constructed.
According to Ryzhenkov, at first stage, blast furnace manufacture could be combined with the electric metallurgy. (Ukrainian metal)
