At public hearings, ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih presented EIA reports on two investment projects – reconstruction of water pipeline for supply of process water to OBP-1 and construction of cooling tower for cooling of water in recirculation system of GCP-5 of BF-9.
Public hearings are held under procedures specified in the law “On Environment Impact Assessment”. Impact in process of work performance (implementation of projects), as well as in process of further operation of new and reconstructed facilities are considered at them.
Aleksey Biushkin, representative of Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, held the hearings. Representatives of social environmental agencies, interested citizens, as well as representatives of ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih participated in them.
First, the participants got an understanding of the project on reconstruction of complex of buildings and facilities of process water pipeline of Process Water Supply Shop of Mining Department. Joined pump station supplies its shops with process water. Process water is supplied through 1420 mm pipelines (four lines) from the station to K-6 chamber and then through three lines to OBP-2 and through two lines to OBP-1. Previously all three lines at OBP-2 have been replaced and now one of lines at OBP-1 will be replaced under the represented project. This will allow supplying process water to sections Nos. 6a, 7 and 8 of OBP-1.
Then the project on construction of fan cooling tower of recovery water-cooling cycle No. 23 was presented to the participants. New cooling tower will consist of 8 sections manufactured by Czech company Water Treatment Engineering s.r.o. Highly effective polymer film fill, which ensures low adhesion towards suspended particles, as well as absence of sediments and encrustation of fill, its reliable operation and service, is used in the cooling tower design.
The facility will be used instead of Cooling Tower No. 21B for failure-free and safe supply of cooled water to GCP-5 of BF-9. Designed cooling tower including automatic equipment will allow to cool down 4 000 cubic meters of water per hour from +50 to +30 Celsius degrees including its recovery to recirculation system. Control system will support preset temperature by means of adjusting engines speed control of cooling tower fans. Temperature and vibration sensors of fan engines will allow timely diagnosing and identifying faults, ensuring necessary operation mode for the fan. All parameters of water-cooling recirculation system will be sent to control panel of Pump Station No. 30. It is planned to use mobile service station including complete software package for system maintenance. Light and sound alarm in case of deviation of parameters from preset values is foreseen under the project.
Both projects presented at public hearings do not foresee significant impact on environment both in process of work performance and further operation of facilities, and meet the requirements of current environmental legislation. (AMKR/Ukrainian metal)
