The environment activists of Mariupol, one of the most polluted cities in Ukraine, protest against construction of a new continuous casting machine No. 4 with the capacity of 2.5 million tons and the ladle furnace instead of the outdated CCM No. 1 with the capacity of 0.75 million tons per year at Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works.
If the CCM4 is constructed, the total steel output at the works will grow from 3.09 million tons to 4.064 million tons.
At the same time, according to the activists, no measures are envisioned to decrease pollution. (Ukrainian metal)
