Russian aluminum giant UC RUSAL’s Nadvoitsy Aluminum Smelter in the republic of Karelia lost a sales market due to the U.S. sanctions and has been storing its products at a warehouse for two months already, a source at the smelter reported on June 4.
Warehouses have currently accumulated around 3,000 tons of aluminum.
“The problem of profitability has always been relevant for the smelter, and now supplies to the U.S. have completely ceased. The plant has been operating with a loss for several months, especially since we depend on foreign alumina, which we also have difficulties with,” the source said.
RUSAL only confirmed the fact that the smelter shipped its products to a warehouse due to problem with sales amid the U.S. sanctions. (Prime/Ukrainian metal)
