This weekend the new education project for employees’ children has started at ArcelorMittal – School of Young Engineers. The educational program includes chemical and physical experiments, master classes in wood and metal work, electrical and robotics, and 3D-printing.

Participants of the School of Young Engineers will be 320 children at the age of 9 to 15 years. All children, whose parents applied in March, were enrolled in the school. According to the results of selecting process, 144 children have started the training this spring. The second wave of training is going to launch in autumn, during which 173 children are expected to participate the school.

During the scientific experiments children will deal with interesting chemical studies and experiments. Kids will try to work with electromechanics and hydraulics. At the lessons of designing, children will pick up the basic skills of wood chip carving and working with metal.

Discipline of electrical engineering will allow children to understand the nature and see the basic physical processes, designing and assembling of electrical circuit. At the lesson, dedicated to 3D-printer, children will first draw the subject, which as a result they will get in a bulk form. With the help of 3D-printer they will realize their idea. At robotics classes, students will learn how to control robots on the software basis, to design and assemble them.

Lessons at new school will take place once a week at weekend in ArcelorMittal University. Classes will be given by teachers from State Pedagogical University of Kriviy Rih and also the specialists of children school SmartStart IT with ArcelorMittal. Each group contains 12 children that allows giving classes effectively. This is a 3-month course. After finishing studying, each child receives the certificate of graduation.

That is why the idea for opening the School of Young Engineers emerged in our company. We would like to provide one more possibility for children’s development. Free educational programs for children of our employees became a good tradition. For the fourth year in a row, we have schools for teaching English and IT-technologies. And in the future we want to organize classes in schools not only for the children of our employees, but also for other small residents of our city”. (AMKR/Ukrainian metal)
