In 2017 Tajikistan mined 1.7 million tons of coal, having set a record.
18 enterprises mine for coal in the republic. The 4 largest promised to mine 1.5 million tons of coal. Other companies obtained some 200 thousand tons.
For the past four years Tajikistan has been mining record-high volumes of coal: 870 thousand tons in 2014, over 1 million tons in 2015, 1.4 million in 2016 and more than 1.7 million tons in 2017. Previously the country used to mine some 17 thousand tons of coal per year.
Prior to gaining independence Tajikistan mined 309 thousand tons per year. (Ukrainian metal)
