Production of thermal and coking coal in Ukraine declined by 9.2% YoY in January-August, to 23.606 million tons, according to the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry’s press service.

State-owned mines alone produced 3.1 million tons of coal of the total output, while coal production at the state mines fell by 20% over the period under review.

Some 2.6 million tons of coal was mined in Ukraine in August, including 0.4 million tons produced at the state-owned mines. Production of thermal and coking coal in Ukraine in 2015 shrank by 37.5% against 2014, to 39.76 million tons, due to hostilities in Donbas.
