UC RUSAL has commissioned a $1.14 million two-stage gas purification unit at Krasnoyarsk Aluminum Smelter to make sodium sulfate used for production of pulp, glass and construction materials, the company said in a statement on August 3.

The unit has been tested and made over 50 tons of the product. According to preliminary assessment, RUSAL will be able to make up to 5,000-10,000 tons of sulfates annually.

The new technology will save $1.39 million of investment in new mud basins annually and will reduce costs of gas treatment equipment maintenance. (Prime/Ukrainian metal)
