At present there are no technologies in the world that can make metal industry green, Norilsk Nickel vice-president Elena Bezdenezhnykh believes.
“We are constantly improving the ecological conditions. By 2023 the company will have invested 250 billion rubles into environmental projects. But, unfortunately, there is no technology that can make metallurgy green. At best it can be made safe and harmless for people, and that’s the way we go”, she explained.
By 2023 Nornickel will have decreased pollution by 75%.
This year the company plans to put into operation the Bystrinsky Mining and Processing Works (copper-gold ores) in Chita region.
“We will be using all the available technologies to decrease environment impact from the start”, she said. (Ukrainian metal)
