Gold mining companies of Russia’s Zabaikalsky region increased gold output by 7% YoY, to over 12 tons in 2016, an analyst at the geology and subsurface use department of the region’s Natural Resources Ministry Alexei Zakharov reported.

Tungsten concentrate production rose by 10%, to 1,700 tons, lead and zinc production remained flat at over 43,000 and 6,000 tons respectively. Coal output grew by 5% YoY, to over 20 million tons.

The region’s major lode gold producer Novo-Shirokinsky produced over 2 tons of gold, Rudnik Alexandrovsky – over 1.3 tons and Mangazeya Mining – more than 850 kilograms.

The largest placer gold miners were Uryumkan and Ksenyevsky Priisk, which produced 700 and 430 kilograms of gold respectively.

The Tunguisky coalmine produced 13 million tons of coal, the largest volume in the post-Soviet period.
