In January-October Ukraine consumed 25550.7 thousand tons of coal, up by 9.5%, or by 2.21million tons, YoY.
According to the Ministry of energy and coal industry, in October coal consumption dropped by 1.5 thousand tons YoY, to 2.63 million tons.
In 2015 Ukraine consumed 28.63 million tons of coal, down by 17.6% YoY, or by 6.12 million tons.
Ukrainian TPPs operate on anthracite and gas coals. After the beginning of the Russia-supported military activities in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, a part of state and private mines, in particular those that mined anthracite, remained on Ukraine-uncontrolled territory.
In 2015 anthracite mining in Ukraine dropped to 4.5 million tons from 17.8 million tons in 2013.
But in H1 2016, DTEK, that kept control over its mines on the occupied territory, increased anthracite output almost 2-fold, to 3 million tons.
