The state enterprise Ukrpromvneshexpertisa says the zero duty on scrap imports will not greatly affect imports.
“There is no country that could supply scrap to us at favorable conditions. The decree weakly affects imports. We didn’t import scrap not because of the duty, but because there was nowhere to import it from”, UPE deputy director Yuri Dobrovolski said.
Slovakia, Hungary and Poland could supply scrap to Ukraine, but it is very expensive. Because of the railway width differences the scrap imported from EU would also become expensive. (Ukrainian metal)
