In October-November Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works, a part of Metinvest, started producing 1.2-1.55 mm hot-rolled coils.
According to Metinvest statement, these coils are used in construction.
Coils are made in accordance with DSTU 2834-94/GOST 16523-97. The EU-standard coils are expected to be produced in the near future.
“Ukraine never produced hot-rolled coils of such thickness. Now the manufacturers of electric-welded pipes, sections and construction fittings can replace the expensive cold-rolled metal with the new product, leading to a much lesser prime cost”, the statement said.
The first batch of hot-rolled coils weighing 1 thousand tons has been supplied to local manufacturers of pipes and doors. The company intends to sell its metal in Ukraine, CIS and South-Eastern Europe. (Ukrainian metal)
