In 2015-2016 Ukraine hasn’t spent anything on industrial safety at state-run coalmines. The 2017-budget doesn’t stipulate any money either.

“Mining output decreases, while accidents at mine increase. This year saw twice as much miners killed than last year”, the Independent Miners Union chairman Mikhail Volynets said.

In early October supplies of self-rescuers to state mines dropped to 66% of the need, at Lvivugol – to 55%, and at Volynugol – to 41%. That means that almost every second miner goes underground without protection in case of an emergency situation. (Ukrainian metal)
