Russian steelmaker Severstal’s coal production unit Vorkutaugol is evacuating workers from the Zapolarnaya mine because the carbon monoxide level has exceeded the norm, the company said in a statement.

“In accordance with the safety rules, the workers on the shift are being lifted to the surface. Emergency Ministry troops are investigating the mine. There were about 140 people at the moment of the accident in the mine”, the company said.

In February, another mine of the company, Severnaya, collapsed at the depth of 748 meters, followed by more than five explosions in several days. Out of 110 miners who were working at the mine at that moment, 80 people were evacuated. The death toll estimate was 36 people, including rescuers. (Prime/Ukrainian metal)
