Metal products exports are more profitable than scrap exports.
“According to our calculations, a country receives more from 1 ton of scrap turned into metal and exported than from the sale of 1 ton of scrap”, said Ukrmetallurgprom president Alexander Kalenkov.
Mining-metallurgical complex is one of the main revenue-gatherers for Ukraine.
“Scrap market is very unclear, it uses cash payments, and it doesn’t bring many taxes”, he said.
At the same time, some 30 countries protect their scrap market.
“For example, in Russia it was possible to export any volume of scrap, but only through one port. And that port was frozen for most of the year. Canada and USA totally forbid scrap exports when the time came”, he added. (Ukrainian metal)
