Construction of trestle for crane altitude change is in the progress in the main building of the smelting shop of Kola MMC (Nornickel subsidiary) in township of Nickel. The engineering structure is necessary for repair of main hoisting-and-conveying equipment.
Three overhead cranes operate in main aisle of the smelting shop. They are responsible for charging of materials into converters and discharging of converter-matte produced by pyrometallurgical processing.
According to the schedule, every hoisting device has to undergo an operating repair and three routine maintenance procedures. Problems emerge when the middle crane has to be repaired. When in the maintenance area it blocks one of the edge cranes thus obstructing engagement of the latter in the production process. Construction of the crane trestle will eliminate these downtimes.
One of the cranes will be jacked up with the lifting mechanism to make way for the others to come back from repair area to central aisle of the smelting shop. As of today, foundation for crane trestle is complete and steelwork erection started at the smelting shop. Trestle will help to increase freight traffic within the main aisle and improve speed of converters charging. (Norilsk Nickel/Ukrainian metal)
