June proved to be extremely unlucky for Ukrainian metal companies mostly because of the railroad strike. Steel smelting dropped by 19% MoM, to 1.87 million tons, pig iron output decreased by 20.5% MoM, to 1.79 million tons.
Average daily steel output in June totaled 62.4 thousand tons as opposed to 73.2 thousand tons in May. Pig iron was on the level of 59.6 thousand tons against 72.4 thousand tons in May. Most of the losses are on behalf of companies situated in the ATO zone.
Yenakievo Iron and Steel Works was the most successful of the companies with 66 thousand tons of pig iron, 71 thousand tons of steel and 50 thousand tons of rolled metal. EMZ has been working during the railroad strike with only one blast furnace.
Donetsk Iron and Steel Works has been completely halted from June 10 till June 19, but then started operating 1 blast furnace. Last month the company produced 35 thousand tons of pig iron.
