Under the current price situation on the global markets, scrap export duty from Ukraine should be on the level of 50-60 euro per ton.
“When we were discussing 35-euro duty, scrap price in Turkey was $140-160 per ton. At that time it was reasonable”, said Zaporizhstal CEO Rostislav Shurma.
Now scrap prices in Turkey have increased to $280 per ton, or up almost two times.
“So 35 euro per ton is inadequate. Now we have to speak of at least 50-60 euro per ton duty, if we want scrap to remain in Ukraine”, he explained.
At the same time deputy head of the Ministry of economical development and trade Maxim Nefiodov believes such figures should be approached with care.
“30 euro per ton is the maximum that we can claim”, he said. (Ukrainian metal)
