The employees of the Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works want their company to be named after Zot Nekrasov.
The renaming of the company will result in huge expenses. The final decision on the matter will be taken at the meeting of the shareholders on April 25. At the same time Ilyich Iron and Steel Works is a well-known brand on the world market and it’s not associated with Vladimir Lenin.
“Ilyich-branded metal is exported into dozen countries. We believe that the change of the trade name after many years of successful sales on export markets is highly illogical: it will make the sales of traditionally recognizable Ukrainian products more difficult”, said the company in its statement.
Zot Nekrasov is a famous metallurgist and scientist, the founder of the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy in Ukraine. Many of his ideas and designs in blast-furnace manufacture were first applied at Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works. (Ukrainian metal)
