Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works expenses for railroad-water transportation of raw materials are 2.6 times higher compared to just railroad.
“We pay 136 UAH for 1 ton of iron ore raw materials delivered by railroad, but if we add coastal shipping, the price rises to 354 UAH”, said the works CEO Yuri Zinchenko.
Still, the company has to use this combined method of transportation to give work to its employees and fulfill its obligations to the clients.
In April the works already received 15.7 thousand tons of concentrate using the combined method.
“When the overhaul of the blast furnace #4 is finished, we will need much more raw materials”, he added. (Ukrainian metal)
