Zaporizhstal believes the local market has to be protected from imported rolled metal.
“We’re not expecting any preferences from the authorities, but the local market has to be protected. All the countries to where we supply our products protect their metal industry”, said the company sales director Vladimir Kolomiets.
He thinks Ukraine should impose mirror duties on Russian rolled metal.
“Our country is unique. In 2015 we imposed imports duty, but this year we have cancelled it. At the same time Russia has imposed duties on some of our products”, he added.
“At present the local market of steel stagnates, and so does the whole economy. We have both political and economical crisis. To start climbing up (and we are at the bottom already) we need government programs. In particular, those on infrastructure projects. If we start them, transport, construction and metal industry will start working as well”, stressed Kolomiets. (Ukrainian metal)
