Azovstal has started implementing the pulverized coal injection system at its blast furnace.
The project will allow the company to stop using natural gas in pig iron manufacture. All the works should be completed by November.
Such short terms are explained by the incomplete cycle of PCI to be implemented. Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works, already using this system, will help Azovstal.
As of today Azovstal is the only company in Ukraine not to use PCI in blast furnaces, except for Evraz Dniepropetrovsk Iron and Steel Works named after Petrovsky, which was able to wave gas usage without switching to this system. (Ukrainian metal)
