Chairman of the Metallurgists Federation of Ukraine Sergey Belenky said Ukrzaliznytsia shouldn’t increase the cost of its services under the recessing economy.
“Iron ore, as well as metal prices have reached their historical minimums. Companies are working with zero profitability. Next year some companies will close or halt for uncertain period of time”, he said, adding that the current level of railroad tariffs allowed Ukrzaliznytsia to profit on transportation, while the crisis raged in metal industry.
“The most up-to-date companies are forced to fire people and work part-time, as we don’t have the local market and are robbed of exports, since it becomes disadvantageous”, he explained.
Association of Ukrainian Ferroalloy Producers also spoke against the planned railroad tariffs increase. (Ukrainian metal)
