Increase in railroad tariffs would worsen the coal industry crisis, leaving dozens of thousand of miners jobless.
According to the chairman of the coal industry workers union Viktor Turmanov, salary debts to miners have already reached 500 million UAH. And the tariffs increase will make the coal more expensive, thermal power stations losses would grow, and their debts to miners will also increase.
“Today the coal industry is in the dead-end. Tariffs increase would make things even worse”, Turmanov said.
He believes this increase will affect many industries and could even cause the halt of companies, rise of unemployment and social tension. The country would receive a number of new depressed regions. So this has to be discussed with all parties involved and the head of the government.
The minister of infrastructure Andrei Pivovarsky has earlier announced the railroad transportation tariffs rise in 2016 by 30%: by 15% from January 1, and by 15% more from July 1. (Ukrainian metal)
