It is reported that galvanized steel consumption in Ukraine in 2010 grew merely by 30% compared to 2009 to 330,000 tons. This is a very good figure, which has overcome expectations and forecasts.
For 2011 a further growth of galvanized steel consumption by 10-15% to 380 thousand tons is expected.
In 2010 in Ukraine there appeared two new producers of galvanized steel. Unisteel started shipments in July 2010 and now it has orders not for local market only but also from Azerbaijan, Belarus and Moldova. In autumn 2010 Metals and Polymers Plant started production, however, it is going to be idle in January because of poor order book.
In 2010 Ukraine imported 146,000 tons of galvanized steel, up by 30% from the 2009 level. The major suppliers were the US Steel Kosice and ArcelorMittal Temirtau. (Ugmk.info)
