Ukrainian steel consumption

According to the data issued by the metal trading enterprise Ukrainian Mining and Metallurgical Company, in January to September this year Ukraine consumed about 4.905 million tons of rolled steel products, up by 36.6% YoY.

In September, Ukraine’s consumption of rolled steel products increased by 3.9% compared to August and rose by 56.9% compared to September 2009. In January to September the share of imports in the domestic rolled steel product market amounted to 23.2%, up from 16.9% YoY.
The biggest increases were seen in the consumption of angles and cold-rolled sheet, rising by 32.3% and 31.1% YoY respectively in January to September. Meanwhile, in September, rebar deliveries increased by 38.1% YoY and by 38.13% MoM.
During the first nine months of this year, UGMK noted the increase of the share of other rolled steel products in Ukraine’s total rolled steel product consumption to 53% from 43% YoY, mainly due to the rise of 4.3% in the share of round billet, the increase of 1.5% in the share of round bar and the rise of 0.8% in the share of square billets.
In January to September Ukraine’s largest consumers of rolled steel were the metal trade sector, shipments to which amounted to 28.8% of total rolled steel product deliveries, followed by the pipe sector with its share of overall consumption in the domestic rolled steel market amounting to 25.5% and machine-building with a share of 16.8.
