Interfax reported that the Metinvest holding’s Azovstal, one of Ukraine leading steelmakers saw roll output contract 33% oY to 2.564 million tonnes in January to August 2009 compared to the same period of 2008, including 446,800 tonnes in August.

Crude steel production fell 33.6% to 2.781 million tonnes in the period, pig iron output declined 31.1% to 2.39 million tonnes and coke production dropped 21.1% to 1.294 million tonnes.

Azovstal produced 472,200 tonnes of crude steel in August, 409,600 tonnes of pig iron and 182,800 tonnes of coke.

Finished roll production fell 10% in 2008 to 5.039 million tonnes. (Interfax)
